Delta is a public high school funded by three local school districts with supplemental funding from local private/public partnerships. Deidre Holmberg has been part of this successful initiative since she joined the Core Planning Team as a science teacher representative in 2008. She successfully coordinates and nurtures the challenging and sometimes conflicting agendas of these three school districts, while at the same time building relationships to ensure that Delta High School students have experiential opportunities in the field. Deidre has been progressing with a new model for 21st-century skill-building far in advance of the rest of the region and the country.

Deidre has acted to ensure that the arts are embedded in the STEM curricula to support a well-rounded education. As principal, she has worked with local, state, and national organizations to build this "American High School 2.0," a highly personalized, welcoming STEM school for Tri-Cities students. Under Deidre's leadership, Delta has focused on rigorous grading, industry-level engineering and technology instruction, teacher collaboration, community engagement, and experiential learning. Delta High School is continually mentioned on the national stage—even by the Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan—as an example of what can be achieved through outstanding school leadership and strong community support.
